Mindful eating leads to better food choices from "summary" of The Mindful Diet by Ruth Wolever PhD,Beth Reardon MS,RD,LDN,Tania Hannan
When we bring mindfulness to our eating, we become more tuned in to our body's hunger and fullness cues. This awareness helps us make better food choices because we are able to distinguish between true physical hunger and emotional hunger. By being present in the moment while eating, we can savor each bite and truly enjoy the flavors and textures of our food. Mindful eating also allows us to slow down and pay attention to how different foods make us feel. We can notice which foods give us energy and make us feel nourished, and which ones leave us feeling sluggish or bloated. This awareness helps us make more informed choices about what we put into our bodies. When we are mindful while eating, we are less likely to consume food mindlessly or out of habit. Instead, we become more intentional about our food choices, taking into consideration our preferences, values, and goals. This can lead to a greater sense of satisfaction and fulfillment with our meals. Furthermore, mindfulness can help us break free from unhealthy patterns or behaviors around food. By being fully present during meals, we can learn to listen to our body's signals and respond to them in a way that supports our well-being. This can lead to a more balanced and harmonious relationship with food.- Mindful eating empowers us to make choices that align with our overall health and wellness goals. By bringing awareness and intention to our eating habits, we can cultivate a greater sense of control and self-awareness when it comes to nourishing our bodies. This practice can ultimately lead to a more positive and sustainable approach to food that supports our well-being in the long run.
