Mindfulness is a path towards selfcompassion from "summary" of Wherever You Go, There You Are by Jon Kabat-Zinn

In the practice of mindfulness, we begin to cultivate a deeper sense of awareness and presence in our everyday lives. This involves paying attention to our thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations without judgment or attachment. By becoming more attuned to the present moment, we can develop a greater understanding of ourselves and our inner experiences. As we continue to deepen our mindfulness practice, we may start to notice patterns of self-criticism and negative self-talk that arise within us. These internal dialogues can be relentless and harsh, often leading to feelings of unworthiness or inadequacy. However, through mindfulness, we can begin to observe these thoughts with a sense of curiosity and compassion, rather than getting caught up in them. By approaching ourselves with kindness and understanding, we can begin to cultivate self-compassion. This involves treating ourselves with the same level of care and empathy that we would offer to a close friend or loved one. Through this practice, we can learn to be more gentle and forgiving towards ourselves, even in moments of distress or difficulty. Mindfulness can serve as a pathway towards self-compassion by helping us to develop a greater sense of self-awareness and self-acceptance. By tuning into our present-moment experiences with an open heart and mind, we can begin to unravel the layers of self-judgment and criticism that may be holding us back. As we practice mindfulness and self-compassion, we may start to recognize the interconnectedness between the two. By being present and attentive to our inner experiences, we can cultivate a deeper sense of empathy and understanding towards ourselves. This, in turn, can lead to a greater sense of peace and well-being in our lives.
  1. The practice of mindfulness can help us to cultivate a more loving and compassionate relationship with ourselves. By approaching our inner experiences with openness and kindness, we can begin to heal old wounds and cultivate a sense of wholeness and connection within ourselves.
