Insulin resistance is like a key that no longer fits properly into the lock. This condition occurs when our cells become resistant to the effects of insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas to regulate blood sugar levels. When insulin resistance takes hold, the pancreas responds by producing even more insulin in an attempt to force glucose into the cells. This excess insulin does manage to lower blood sugar levels temporarily, but it also comes with a host of negative side effects. The constant presence of high insulin levels can lead to weight gain, high blood pressure, and inflammation - all of which are risk factors for type 2 diabetes. Over time, the cells become overwhelmed by the constant bombardment of insulin, and they start to shut down their insulin receptors. This leads to a vicious cycle where more and more insulin is needed to achieve the same effect....
