Balance omega3 and omega-6 fats for inflammation control from "summary" of Deep Nutrition by Catherine Shanahan, M.D.

To keep inflammation under control, we must pay attention to the balance of omega-3 and omega-6 fats in our diet. These two types of fats play crucial roles in our bodies, but they must be in balance for optimal health. Omega-3 fats are anti-inflammatory, while omega-6 fats tend to promote inflammation. Ideally, we should aim for a ratio of about 1:1 between omega-3 and omega-6 fats. However, in the modern Western diet, this ratio is often skewed heavily in favor of omega-6 fats. This imbalance can lead to chronic inflammation, which is at the root of many diseases, including heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. To rebalance our omega-3 and omega-6 fats, we can increase our intake of foods rich in omega-3 fats, such as fatty fish, flaxseeds, and walnuts. At the same time, we should reduce our consumption of foods high in omega-6 fats, such as processed vegetable oils like corn and soybean oil. By adjusting our diet to achieve a healthier balance of omega-3 and omega-6 fats, we can help to reduce inflammation in our bodies and lower our risk of developing chronic diseases. It is a simple yet powerful step we can take towards better health and well-being.
