Surround yourself with supportive people from "summary" of Calm the F*ck Down by Sarah Knight

It's a fact of life that not all people are created equal when it comes to providing comfort, support, and appropriate feedback during times of stress. Some folks have a natural gift for making others feel better. They're the ones who'll listen to you vent without interrupting, offer a shoulder to cry on, and tell you that everything will be okay, even when you're absolutely positive that it won't. Sometimes these people are friends, family members, or coworkers; other times, they're professional therapists, counselors, or support-group members. Regardless of their relationship to you, they have one thing in common: they make you feel better just by being around. Surrounding yourself with supportive people is one of the most effective ways to calm the f*ck down when you're stressed, anxious, or upset. It may seem obvious, but it's worth mentioning because so many of us forget to seek out the people who make us feel good when we're feeling bad. Instead, we tend to isolate ourselves from others, either physically, by withdrawing from social situations and spending time alone, or emotionally, by putting up walls and refusing to let others in. This is a natural response to stress, and it may even feel necessary at times. But it's not a healthy long-term coping strategy. In fact, it can make you feel worse in the long run. When you're feeling overwhelmed, it's important to remember that you don't have to go it alone. There are people out there who care about you and want to help you through difficult times. They may not be able to solve all your problems or take away all your pain, but they can provide a listening ear, a comforting presence, and a fresh perspective on your situation. They can remind you that you're not alone, that your feelings are valid, and that you have the strength and resilience to get through whatever challenges come your way. So the next time you're feeling stressed, anxious, or upset, reach out to the supportive people in your life. Let them know what you're going through and how they can help. Whether it's a simple text message, a phone call, or a face-to-face conversation, connecting with someone who cares about you can make a world of difference. And remember, being supportive is a two-way street. Just as others have helped you in your time of need, be sure to return the favor when they need a listening ear or a comforting presence.
