When you start to feel overwhelmed or stressed, it's easy to turn to food for comfort. That pint of ice cream or bag of chips can seem like the perfect solution to soothe your emotions, even if just temporarily. But relying on food to control your emotions can lead to a harmful cycle of emotional eating. Emotional eating occurs when you eat in response to your emotions rather than physical hunger. Instead of eating to fuel your body, you eat to cope with feelings of sadness, stress, anger, or boredom.
