I have no selfcontrol when it comes to food from "summary" of Food: A Love Story by Jim Gaffigan
When it comes to food, I am like a moth drawn to a flame, a sailor to a siren's song, a dog to a dropped piece of bacon. In other words, I have no self-control. It's not that I lack willpower; it's just that when faced with the temptation of delicious food, my brain short-circuits and all rational thought goes out the window. I tell myself that I'll just have one bite, but before I know it, I've eaten the whole pizza. I promise myself that I'll start eating healthier tomorrow, but then someone brings in donuts to the office and suddenly I'm elbow-deep in sugary goodness. It's a vicious cycle that I just can't seem to break. I've tried every diet under the sun, from Atkins to Paleo to juice cleanses, but nothing seems to stick. I'll be good for a few days, maybe even a week, but then something happens – a stressful day at work, a breakup, a particularly delicious-looking piece of cake – and I'm right back where I started. It's not just the taste of food that I love, it's the whole experience – the smell, the texture, the way it makes me feel. Food is my comfort, my joy, my downfall. I know that I should be more disciplined, that I should be able to control myself, but when faced with a plate of nachos or a bowl of pasta, all bets are off. So I continue to struggle, to fight against my own impulses, to try and find some semblance of balance. But deep down, I know that as long as there is delicious food in the world, I will always be at its mercy.Similar Posts
