Overeating leads to disease from "summary" of Eat for Life by Joel Fuhrman

When we consistently consume more calories than our bodies require for optimal function, we set ourselves up for a host of health problems. Overeating, especially on a diet high in processed foods, refined sugars, and unhealthy fats, can lead to obesity, which is a major risk factor for chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and certain types of cancer. In addition, overeating can also lead to elevated levels of inflammation in the body, which is linked to a wide range of health issues, including autoimmune disorders, arthritis, and even mental health conditions such as depression. When we overload our systems with excess calories, our organs have to work harder to process and eliminate the waste, putting a strain on our liver, kidneys, and digestive system. Furthermore, overeating can disrupt our body's natural hunger and satiety cues, making it difficult to maintain a healthy weight and leading to a cycle of overconsumption and weight gain. This can create an unhealthy relationship with food, where we turn to it for comfort or stress relief rather than nourishment and sustenance. By making conscious choices to eat nutrient-dense, whole foods in appropriate portions, we can support our bodies in functioning optimally and reduce our risk of developing chronic diseases. It is important to listen to our bodies, eat mindfully, and pay attention to hunger and fullness signals to maintain a healthy balance and avoid the negative consequences of overeating.
