Proper sleep is crucial for the brain to function optimally. When we sleep, our brain has the opportunity to rest and recharge, allowing it to consolidate memories and process information. Without enough sleep, cognitive functions such as attention, decision-making, and problem-solving can be impaired. Inadequate sleep can also lead to mood disturbances, irritability, and difficulty concentrating. During deep sleep, the brain clears out toxins that build up during the day, which is essential for maintaining brain health. This process, known as the glymphatic system, helps remove waste products that can be harmful if allowed to accumulate.
