Selfcompassion is key to healing from "summary" of When the Body Says No by Gabor Mate

Self-compassion is key to healing. It is not just a nice idea or a feel-good concept – it is a crucial factor in our physical and emotional well-being. When we are compassionate towards ourselves, we are able to acknowledge our pain and suffering without judgment or criticism. This self-compassion allows us to truly see ourselves, to accept ourselves as we are, flaws and all. When we are able to offer ourselves this kind of compassion, we are able to heal on a deep level. We are able to release the pent-up emotions and traumas that have been stored in our bodies for years. We are able to let go of the negative beliefs and self-criticisms that have been holding us back. Self-compassion is not about being self-indulgent or selfish. It is about recognizing our humanity, our imperfections, and our vulnerabilities. It is about treating ourselves with the same kindness and understanding that we would offer to a dear friend in need. When we are able to cultivate self-compassion, we are able to tap into our body's innate healing abilities. Our bodies are incredibly intelligent and are constantly working to maintain balance and harmony. When we are able to quiet the critical voice in our heads and offer ourselves love and compassion, we are able to support our body's natural healing processes. Self-compassion is not always easy, especially for those of us who have been conditioned to be hard on ourselves. But with practice and patience, we can learn to be kinder and more loving towards ourselves. We can learn to listen to our bodies and honor our needs. We can learn to embrace our imperfections and see them as part of what makes us unique and beautiful. In the end, self-compassion is the key to true healing. It is the foundation upon which we can build a life of health, happiness, and wholeness. It is the gift that we can give ourselves every day, a gift that has the power to transform our lives from the inside out.
