Type 2 diabetes is a disease of too much insulin. The primary problem is not blood sugar, but the hormonal imbalance that drives it. Insulin is a fat-storage hormone. When we eat, insulin goes up, telling our bodies to store food energy as fat. This is normal and healthy. The problem comes when we keep eating frequently, causing insulin levels to stay elevated. The body starts to ignore insulin's signals, leading to insulin resistance. Insulin resistance is the hallmark of Type 2 diabetes. Insulin resistance leads to elevated blood sugar, high insulin levels, and a host of other metabolic abnormalities. This is why simply lowering blood sugar with medications does not address the root cause of the disease. To truly reverse Type 2 diabetes, we must address the underlying insulin resistance. The good news is that insulin resistance is entirely preventable and reversible. By reducing the intake of refined carbohydrates and sugars, we can lower insulin levels and improve insulin sensitivity. Intermittent fasting is another powerful tool to reverse insulin resistance. Fasting allows insulin levels to drop, allowing the body to burn off stored fat for energy. This can help reset the body's hormonal balance and improve metabolic health. By focusing on lowering insulin levels through dietary changes and intermittent fasting, we can reverse Type 2 diabetes and regain metabolic health. This approach addresses the root cause of the disease, rather than just managing symptoms. With the right lifestyle changes, we can prevent and even reverse Type 2 diabetes, allowing people to live healthier and happier lives.
