Letting go of distractions leads to deeper insight from "summary" of The Beginner's Guide to Insight Meditation by Arinna Weisman,Jean Smith

When we sit down to meditate, we may notice how easily our minds get caught up in distractions. Thoughts, feelings, sensations - they all clamor for our attention, pulling us away from the present moment. It can be tempting to engage with these distractions, to follow them down the rabbit hole of our minds. But in the practice of insight meditation, we are encouraged to do the opposite. We are encouraged to let go of distractions, to release our grip on them and return to the breath, the body, or whatever anchor we are using to ground ourselves in the present moment. This act of letting go is not an easy one. It requires patience, persistence, and a gentle but firm resolve. It asks us to acknowledge the distractions without judgment, to see them for what they are - passing phenomena that arise and fall away in the field of our awareness. By letting go of distractions in this way, we create space for deeper insight to arise. We allow ourselves to see more clearly, to penetrate beneath the surface of our experience and touch something more profound.
