Embrace the idea of productive procrastination from "summary" of The Art of Procrastination by John Perry

Instead of fighting against procrastination, I propose embracing it in a productive way. What do I mean by this? Well, instead of trying to force yourself to complete a task in one go, break it down into smaller, more manageable parts. By focusing on these smaller tasks, you can still make progress while giving yourself the illusion of procrastinating. This strategy works by taking advantage of the fact that our brains tend to be more motivated to complete smaller, immediate tasks rather than larger, long-term ones. By tricking yourself into thinking you are procrastinating on the main task, you can actually make progress on it without feeling overwhelmed. Productive procrastination also allows you to harness the power of structured procrastination. This is the idea that while you are procrastinating on one task, you are actually being productive by working on other tasks. By prioritizing the tasks you are procrastinating on, you can make progress on them indirectly by completing other tasks that are still important.
  1. Productive procrastination is about working smarter, not harder. It is about recognizing that procrastination is a natural tendency and finding ways to use it to your advantage. By embracing this concept, you can increase your productivity and efficiency while still allowing yourself the freedom to procrastinate. So next time you find yourself putting off a task, remember that there is a way to procrastinate productively.
