Habits are powerful because they are automatic. They are choices that we stop making but continue to perform. The brain is always looking for ways to save effort, and habits allow our brains to stop actively participating in decision-making, thus conserving mental energy. When a habit emerges, the brain stops fully participating in decision making. Habits never really disappear. They are encoded into the structures of our brain, and once they are there, they never really go away.
