Respect your body from "summary" of Intuitive Eating by Evelyn Tribole, M.S., R.D.,Elyse Resch, M.S., R.D., F.A.D.A.

Respecting your body means treating it with kindness and compassion. It involves acknowledging the signals that your body sends you and honoring them. This means eating when you are hungry and stopping when you are full. It means choosing foods that make you feel good and satisfied, rather than restricting yourself or labeling foods as "good" or "bad". Respecting your body also involves engaging in physical activity that feels good to you. This could be going for a walk, dancing, or practicing yoga. It's about moving your body in a way that brings you joy and energy, rather than punishing yourself with grueling workouts that you dread. When you respect your body, you also prioritize self-care and rest. This means getting enough sleep, taking time to relax, and listening to your body when it tells you it needs a break. It means setting boundaries and saying no when necessary, in order to protect your mental and emotional well-being. Respecting your body involves rejecting harmful messages from diet culture and society that tell you that you need to change your body in order to be worthy or accepted. It means embracing your body as it is and recognizing its inherent value, regardless of its size or shape. It's about practicing self-compassion and self-acceptance, and treating yourself with the same kindness that you would show to a loved one.
  1. Respecting your body is about fostering a positive and nurturing relationship with yourself. It's about tuning into your body's needs and desires, and responding to them with care and respect. By honoring your body in this way, you can cultivate a sense of peace, balance, and well-being in your life.
