The food industry has purposely made products addictive from "summary" of Fat Chance by Robert H. Lustig

The food industry has pulled the wool over our eyes. They have purposely engineered their products to be addictive. And they’ve done it in the sneakiest way possible. By manipulating the very composition of the foods we eat, they have created a perfect storm of addiction. It all starts with sugar. The food industry has flooded our diets with this sweet poison. But it’s not just the sugar itself that’s the problem. It’s the way they’ve hidden it in our foods. It’s in everything from bread to yogurt to salad dressing. And the more we consume, the more our bodies crave. But it doesn’t stop there. They’ve also loaded their products with another dangerous ingredient: fat. And not just any fat – the worst kind, known as trans fats. These fats not only wreak havoc on our health, but they also trigger cravings that are nearly impossible to resist. And let’s not forget about salt. The food industry has ramped up the salt content in their products to levels that are off the charts. This not only makes their foods more addictive, but it also keeps us coming back for more. But perhaps the most insidious part of all is the way they’ve manipulated our brains. By carefully crafting their products to hit the perfect combination of sweet, salty, and fatty, they’ve hijacked our brain’s reward system. It’s no wonder we can’t resist that bag of chips or that pint of ice cream – our brains have been wired to crave it. So the next time you find yourself reaching for that sugary snack or that greasy fast food meal, remember this: it’s not your fault. The food industry has set you up for failure. But armed with this knowledge, you can start to take back control of your health and break free from their addictive grip.
