Release perfectionism from "summary" of Daring to Take Up Space by Daniell Koepke

Perfectionism is a sneaky beast. It convinces us that it’s our friend, that it’s only trying to help us be the best version of ourselves. But in reality, perfectionism is a toxic force that holds us back from living our fullest lives. It tells us that we’re not good enough as we are, that we need to constantly strive for an unattainable standard of flawlessness. But the truth is, perfectionism is a lie. It’s an impossible standard that no one can ever meet. Trying to be perfect is like trying to catch the wind - it’s futile and exhausting. And yet, so many of us fall into the trap of perfectionism, believing that if we just work a little harder, achieve a little more, we’ll finally be satisfied. But the reality is that perfectionism is a bottomless pit. No matter how much we accomplish, no matter how many boxes we check off, there will always be something else to strive for. And in the process, we lose sight of who we truly are. We become so focused on meeting external expectations that we forget to listen to our own inner voice. We forget that our worth is not determined by how perfectly we can perform, but by the simple fact of our existence. Releasing perfectionism is not easy. It requires us to challenge deeply ingrained beliefs about ourselves and the world around us. It means letting go of the need to constantly prove our worth to others, and instead, embracing our inherent value. It means being gentle with ourselves, even when we fall short of our own expectations. It means recognizing that we are human, and that perfection is not only unattainable, but also undesirable. When we release perfectionism, we free ourselves from the shackles of self-doubt and self-criticism. We give ourselves permission to be imperfect, to make mistakes, to learn and grow. We allow ourselves to take up space in the world, without constantly shrinking ourselves to fit into someone else’s idea of perfection. And in doing so, we open ourselves up to a world of possibilities, where we can truly be ourselves, flaws and all.
