Inner peace comes from accepting things as they are from "summary" of Wherever You Go, There You Are by Jon Kabat-Zinn

When we talk about accepting things as they are, we are not talking about resignation or giving up. It is not about becoming passive or indifferent to the challenges and difficulties we face. Rather, it is about acknowledging the reality of the present moment without judgment or resistance. It is about embracing life as it is, with all its imperfections and uncertainties. Acceptance does not mean that we have to like or approve of everything that happens to us. It simply means that we are willing to see things as they are, without trying to change them or make them different. It is about letting go of the need to control every aspect of our lives and trusting in the natural flow of things. When we resist reality and constantly struggle against it, we create unnecessary suffering for ourselves. We become caught up in a cycle of stress, anxiety, and discontentment. On the other hand, when we practice acceptance, we cultivate a sense of peace and equanimity that allows us to navigate life's ups and downs with grace and resilience. Acceptance is not a one-time event, but an ongoing practice that requires patience and mindfulness. It is about being present and fully engaged in each moment, regardless of whether it brings us joy or sorrow. It is about embracing the full spectrum of human experience, from the mundane to the extraordinary, without clinging to or pushing away any part of it. By accepting things as they are, we free ourselves from the burden of our expectations and desires. We let go of the need for things to be different and surrender to the beauty and complexity of life as it unfolds. In this way, we discover a profound sense of inner peace that transcends external circumstances and allows us to connect with the deeper truths of our existence.
