The practice of mindfulness encourages us to observe our thoughts and emotions without judgment or the need to change them. It teaches us to simply acknowledge their presence and let them pass by without getting caught up in them. This is in stark contrast to our habitual tendency to strive for perfection in all aspects of our lives. When we are constantly chasing after perfection, we set unrealistic standards for ourselves and become consumed by self-criticism and self-doubt when we inevitably fall short. This cycle of striving for perfection and feeling inadequate only serves to perpetuate feelings of anxiety, stress, and depression.
