Selfesteem is influenced by our actions and choices from "summary" of Six Pillars of Self-Esteem by Nathaniel Branden

Self-esteem is influenced by our actions and choices. Our self-esteem is profoundly affected by the choices we make and the actions we take. Every choice we make and every action we take either enhances or diminishes our sense of self-worth. This is a crucial concept to understand because it means that we have a significant amount of control over our own self-esteem. We are not merely passive recipients of self-esteem; rather, we are active participants in its creation and maintenance. When we make choices that align with our values and goals, we tend to feel better about ourselves. We experience a sense of pride and self-respect when we act in ways that are consistent with our ideals and aspirations. On the other hand, when we make choices that go against our values or goals, we tend to feel a sense of guilt or shame. These negative emotions can erode our self-esteem and make us feel unworthy or inadequate. Our actions also play a critical role in shaping our self-esteem. When we take actions that are courageous, honest, and aligned with our values, we build a strong foundation for healthy self-esteem. By acting in ways that are in line with our true selves, we reinforce our sense of integrity and worthiness. Conversely, when we engage in actions that are dishonest, cowardly, or harmful to ourselves or others, we undermine our self-esteem and create feelings of self-doubt and self-condemnation.
  1. Our self-esteem is a direct reflection of the choices we make and the actions we take on a daily basis. By being mindful of our decisions and behaviors, we can cultivate a strong and resilient sense of self-worth. It is up to us to take responsibility for our self-esteem by making conscious choices that honor our values and support our well-being. In this way, we can become the architects of our own self-esteem and live more fulfilling and authentic lives.
