Mindful breathing can calm the mind and bring focus to the present moment from "summary" of One Breath at a Time by Kevin Griffin

When we take a moment to simply pay attention to our breath, something remarkable happens. As we focus on the inhale and exhale, we are able to let go of the racing thoughts and worries that often consume our minds. The act of mindful breathing allows us to slow down, to be fully present in the here and now. By bringing our awareness to our breath, we are able to quiet the mental chatter that can cause us stress and anxiety. As we tune in to the rhythmic pattern of our breathing, we begin to feel a sense of calm wash over us. The act of breathing becomes a form of meditation, a way to ground ourselves in the present moment. When we practice mindful breathing regularly, we cultivate a sense of mindfulness that extends beyond our time on the meditation cushion.
