Mindfulness is not some special state that we need to cultivate. It is not an exotic import from the East. It is not a trick or a technique. It is, simply put, a way of being. It is the simple but profound act of bringing your attention to whatever is happening right here, right now. It is about paying attention, in a particular way, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgmentally. When we practice mindfulness, we are not trying to make something happen or attain some special state of mind. We are simply trying to be fully present for whatever is happening in our lives, whether we like it or not.
