Mindfulness cultivates awareness of present moment experiences from "summary" of Full Catastrophe Living (Revised Edition) by Jon Kabat-Zinn

The cultivation of mindfulness in our lives means deliberately paying attention to whatever is happening in the present moment, without judgment. This involves bringing a certain quality of awareness to our experience, a quality that is characterized by being non-judgmental, curious, and kind. By cultivating this kind of awareness, we are able to see things more clearly, to respond more skillfully to whatever arises in our lives. This awareness allows us to see our habitual reactions to events and situations, as well as the patterns of our thinking and feeling. It provides us with a kind of space in which we can observe our thoughts and emotions as they come and go, without getting caught up in them. This kind of awareness is like a flashlight shining into the darkness of our minds, illuminating the hidden corners and revealing the truth of our experience. When we cultivate mindfulness, we are not trying to change anything or fix ourselves in any way. Instead, we are simply bringing a kind of gentle curiosity to our experience, allowing ourselves to be present with whatever arises. This kind of awareness allows us to see the beauty and richness of each moment, no matter how difficult or challenging it may be. By cultivating mindfulness, we are able to develop a deeper sense of connection to ourselves, to others, and to the world around us. We are able to see the interconnectedness of all things, and to appreciate the preciousness of each moment. This kind of awareness brings a sense of gratitude and wonder to our lives, allowing us to fully experience the richness and fullness of each moment.
  1. Mindfulness cultivates an awareness of our present moment experiences, allowing us to fully engage with life as it unfolds. It opens us up to the beauty and mystery of the world, and allows us to live with greater clarity, compassion, and wisdom. Through the practice of mindfulness, we are able to awaken to the full catastrophe of life, and to embrace it with an open heart and mind.
