Activities that engage our skills can lead to flow from "summary" of Flow by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi

When we are fully engaged in an activity that requires our skills, we enter a state of heightened focus and immersion known as flow. In this state, our attention is completely absorbed in the task at hand, and our sense of self-consciousness fades away. We become so engrossed in what we are doing that we lose track of time and space, feeling a sense of energized focus and enjoyment. Flow is not something that happens by chance; rather, it is the result of a specific set of conditions. One of the key factors that can lead to flow is engaging in activities that match our skills. When we are faced with a challenge that is just beyond our current abilities, we are able to enter a state of flow. This is because the task is not too easy, which would lead to boredom, nor too difficult, which would lead to anxiety. Instead, it is just the right level of challenge to keep us fully engaged. In order to experience flow, it is important to find activities that allow us to use our skills to the fullest. This means seeking out tasks that are both challenging and rewarding, where we can see our progress and feel a sense of accomplishment. When we are able to apply our skills in a meaningful way, we are more likely to enter a state of flow. Flow is not limited to any specific type of activity; it can occur in a wide range of tasks, from sports and music to work and hobbies. The key is to find activities that allow us to tap into our skills and push ourselves to new levels of performance. By seeking out challenges that match our abilities, we can unlock the potential for flow in our everyday lives.
