Emotions are numbed through conditioning from "summary" of Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

In the brave new world, emotions are immersed in tranquility, dulled by the relentless conditioning of society. From birth, individuals are subjected to a system of control designed to suppress any hint of genuine feeling. Through the use of technology and psychological manipulation, the citizens are molded into obedient, compliant beings devoid of passion or rebellion. Children are taught from a young age that emotions are dangerous, disruptive forces that must be kept in check at all times. They are conditioned to associate negative feelings with pain and discomfort, while positive emotions are discouraged as unnecessary distractions from their assigned duties. This Pavlovian conditioning ensures that any deviation from the norm is swiftly corrected, creating a population of docile, unthinking drones. Even the most basic human instincts, such as love and desire, are systematically eradicated through the use of drugs and hypnopaedia. People are taught to view relationships as nothing more than pleasure-seeking transactions, devoid of any deeper meaning or emotional connection. This soulless approach to human interaction serves to further isolate individuals from one another, fostering a sense of detachment and apathy that permeates every aspect of society. As a result of this insidious conditioning, the citizens of the brave new world exist in a state of perpetual numbness, unable to experience true joy or sorrow. Their emotions have been systematically stripped away, leaving behind a hollow shell of what it means to be human. In this dystopian reality, the loss of emotion is not seen as a tragedy, but rather as a necessary sacrifice for the sake of stability and order.
