Brain strives for rewards from "summary" of Your Brain at Work by David Rock

The brain is wired to seek out rewards. This primal instinct is deeply ingrained in our neural circuitry and drives much of our behavior. When we are motivated by the promise of a reward, our brain releases dopamine, a neurotransmitter that signals pleasure and reinforces the behavior that led to the reward. This dopamine release creates a positive feedback loop in the brain, motivating us to seek out more rewards in the future. Our brain's reward system is rooted in our evolutionary history.
