Personal boundaries protect emotional wellbeing from "summary" of Women Who Love Too Much by Robin Norwood

When we talk about personal boundaries, we are really talking about the limits we set for ourselves in our relationships with others. These boundaries are like an invisible barrier that protects our emotional wellbeing. Without these boundaries, we leave ourselves vulnerable to being hurt, taken advantage of, or manipulated by those around us. When we have strong personal boundaries, we are able to establish a sense of self-worth and self-respect. We are able to say no when something doesn't feel right, and we are able to advocate for our own needs and desires. These boundaries act as a shield, protecting us from the negative influences of others. On the other hand, when we have weak or non-existent boundaries, we are like a house without walls. We let others in freely, without regard for our own wellbeing. We allow ourselves to be mistreated, disrespected, and overlooked. We become enmeshed in the emotions and needs of others, losing sight of our own identity and autonomy. It is crucial for our emotional health and wellbeing that we establish and maintain healthy personal boundaries. This means being able to recognize when someone is crossing a line, and having the courage to speak up and defend ourselves. It means knowing our own worth and not settling for less than we deserve in our relationships. By setting clear boundaries with others, we are not only protecting ourselves, but we are also teaching others how to treat us. We are sending a message that we are worthy of respect, love, and kindness. And when we respect ourselves enough to establish these boundaries, we are taking a step towards healing and growth.
