Embracing change is a key aspect of mindfulness from "summary" of Wherever You Go, There You Are by Jon Kabat-Zinn

In the practice of mindfulness, we are invited to pay attention to the present moment without judgment. This involves being fully present with whatever is arising, whether it be pleasant or unpleasant. However, one of the key aspects of mindfulness is the ability to embrace change. Change is an inevitable part of life, and resisting it only leads to suffering. By cultivating a mindset that is open to change, we can navigate life with more ease and grace. When we resist change, we are essentially resisting reality. We are clinging to a fixed idea of how things should be, rather than accepting things as they are. This resistance creates tension and stress in our minds and bodies. On the other hand, when we embrace change, we are moving with the flow of life. We are able to adapt to whatever comes our way with a sense of openness and curiosity. Mindfulness allows us to observe our reactions to change without getting caught up in them. Instead of automatically reacting with fear or resistance, we can pause and take a breath. We can notice the thoughts and emotions that arise in response to change, without becoming overwhelmed by them. This awareness gives us the space to choose how we want to respond, rather than being driven by habitual patterns. Embracing change also requires a willingness to let go of our attachment to outcomes. When we are too attached to a particular result, we set ourselves up for disappointment and frustration. By practicing mindfulness, we can cultivate a sense of detachment from outcomes. We can trust that whatever happens, we have the inner resources to handle it with grace and equanimity.
  1. Embracing change is about surrendering to the uncertainty of life. It is about letting go of our need for control and learning to trust in the process. When we can approach change with a sense of openness and curiosity, we can experience a deeper sense of peace and freedom. Mindfulness teaches us to be present with whatever arises, knowing that change is simply a natural part of the unfolding of life.
