Journaling can help organize thoughts from "summary" of The Overthinking Cure by Nick Trenton

When you find yourself trapped in a whirlwind of thoughts, each one fighting for attention in your mind, it can be hard to make sense of anything. Your mind becomes cluttered, and you may feel overwhelmed by the chaos of your own thinking. This is where journaling can be a powerful tool to help you regain control and bring some order to the chaos. By putting pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard, you are externalizing your thoughts and giving them a place to exist outside of your mind.
