Food labeling can be a tricky thing. The words and phrases found on the packaging of our food products are carefully chosen to entice us to buy them. Terms like "all natural," "organic," and "free range" have a nice ring to them, conjuring up images of happy animals frolicking in green pastures. But the reality is often quite different. Take the case of the "free range" chicken, for example. The label suggests that the bird has had the freedom to roam around outside, pecking at bugs and soaking up the sun. But in reality, the term "free range" is loosely regulated and doesn't guarantee that the chicken has actually spent any time outdoors.
