Practice gratitude for the food on your plate from "summary" of The Mindful Diet by Ruth Wolever PhD,Beth Reardon MS,RD,LDN,Tania Hannan
When we sit down to eat a meal, it's easy to take for granted the food in front of us. We might be distracted by our phones, the TV, or our thoughts, and fail to truly appreciate the nourishment on our plates. However, practicing gratitude for the food we are about to eat can have a profound impact on our relationship with food and our overall well-being. By taking a moment to pause and reflect on the journey that our food has taken to reach our plates, we can cultivate a sense of gratitude. We can think about the farmers who grew the produce, the workers who harvested it, the drivers who transported it, and the hands that prepared it. We can consider the sun, rain, soil, and countless other elements that came together to create the food we are about to eat. When we approach our meals with gratitude, we are more likely to savor each bite and eat mindfully. We become more aware of the flavors, textures, and aromas of our food, allowing us to fully experience the nourishment it provides. This can lead to a greater sense of satisfaction and contentment with our meals, reducing the tendency to overeat or mindlessly consume food. Gratitude also helps us to shift our perspective from one of scarcity to one of abundance. Instead of focusing on what we don't have or what we wish we were eating, we can appreciate the abundance of nourishing food that is available to us. This can foster a sense of abundance in other areas of our lives as well, leading to a more positive and grateful outlook overall. Incorporating gratitude into our meals can be as simple as taking a few deep breaths before we eat, saying a silent thank you, or even keeping a gratitude journal to reflect on the things we are thankful for. By practicing gratitude for the food on our plates, we can cultivate a deeper connection to our meals, our bodies, and the world around us.Similar Posts
