Influence is not about manipulation or control from "summary" of The Law of Influence by John C. Maxwell

Influence is not about manipulation or control. It is not about forcing people to act in a certain way or making them do something against their will. True influence is much more subtle and powerful than that. It is about inspiring and motivating others to willingly follow your lead. It is about building trust, respect, and credibility with those around you. When you try to manipulate or control others, you may get them to do what you want in the short term, but you will not earn their loyalty or commitment. People will resent being forced to comply with your demands, and they will not be inspired to give their best effort. On the other hand, when you influence others in a positive way, they will be more likely to trust you and to support your goals. They will see you as a leader worth following, and they will be more willing to go the extra mile to help you succeed. The key to true influence is to build strong relationships with others. You must take the time to get to know them, to understand their needs and motivations, and to show them that you care about their well-being. When people feel valued and respected, they are much more likely to listen to what you have to say and to be open to your ideas. By focusing on building relationships based on trust and mutual respect, you can create a strong foundation for influence that will stand the test of time. Influence is also about setting a positive example for others to follow. People are much more likely to be influenced by someone who practices what they preach. If you want to inspire others to be their best selves, you must first be willing to do the same. By demonstrating integrity, honesty, and a strong work ethic, you will earn the respect and admiration of those around you. Your actions will speak louder than words, and people will be more likely to follow your lead if they see that you are living up to the same standards that you expect from them.
  1. Influence is not about manipulation or control. It is about building strong relationships, setting a positive example, and earning the trust and respect of those around you. True influence comes from a place of authenticity and integrity, and it is a powerful force for positive change. By focusing on building meaningful connections with others and leading by example, you can become a truly influential leader who inspires others to achieve their full potential.
