The joy of living is a practice we can cultivate every moment from "summary" of The Joy of Living by Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche,Eric Swanson
The joy of living is not something that we have to chase after or wait for. It is not a distant destination that requires a long journey to reach. Rather, it is a practice that we can cultivate in every moment of our lives, no matter where we are or what we are doing. We do not need to change our external circumstances or acquire anything new in order to experience joy. The key to cultivating the joy of living lies in our ability to be fully present in the here and now. When we are able to let go of our thoughts about the past and the future, and simply be with whatever is arising in the present moment, we can tap into a deep sense of peace and contentment that is always available to us. This practice of mindfulness allows us to break free from the habitual patterns of thinking and reacting that often lead to suffering. Instead of getting caught up in our thoughts and emotions, we can learn to observe them with a sense of curiosity and openness, allowing them to come and go without getting entangled in them. By cultivating this awareness and acceptance of our inner experiences, we can begin to see that joy is not something that comes from outside of us. It is a natural quality of our own mind that is always present, waiting to be discovered. When we learn to connect with this inner source of joy, we can experience a profound sense of well-being that is not dependent on external circumstances. In this way, the practice of cultivating the joy of living becomes a way of life, a way of being in the world that is grounded in mindfulness and compassion. It is a practice that is available to us in every moment, no matter where we are or what we are doing. And as we continue to cultivate this practice, we can experience a deep sense of fulfillment and happiness that is not contingent on anything outside of ourselves.Similar Posts
