Mindfulness meditation holds the power to transform the experience of suffering. When we sit down to meditate, we are not necessarily seeking to escape from our pain or problems. Rather, we are choosing to face them directly, with an open heart and mind. By cultivating mindfulness, we learn to observe our suffering without being consumed by it. We become aware of the thoughts and emotions that accompany our pain, but we do not get swept away by them. This ability to step back and witness our suffering allows us to develop a new relationship with it. Through mindfulness meditation, we can investigate the nature of our suffering.
