Taking nothing personally releases you from suffering from "summary" of The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz,Janet Mills

When we take things personally, we make the assumption that what others say and do is a reflection of us. We allow their words and actions to affect our self-worth and emotional well-being. This leads to unnecessary suffering as we internalize the judgments and opinions of others as if they were true. By not taking things personally, we free ourselves from the need for approval and validation from others. We understand that the opinions and actions of others are a reflection of their own beliefs and experiences, not a reflection of who we are. We release ourselves from the burden of trying to control how others perceive us, knowing that we are inherently worthy and whole regardless of external validation. When we let go of the need to take things personally, we no longer react defensively or feel hurt by the words and actions of others. We are able to respond with love and understanding, knowing that their behavior is a reflection of their own internal struggles and not a reflection of our worth. This allows us to maintain our peace and serenity in the face of adversity, knowing that we are in control of our own emotional reactions. By practicing the agreement to not take things personally, we cultivate a sense of inner strength and resilience. We are able to navigate the ups and downs of life with grace and equanimity, knowing that our worth is not dependent on the opinions of others. We free ourselves from the cycle of suffering that comes from seeking external validation, and instead find peace and contentment within ourselves.
