Find balance in all aspects of life from "summary" of The Book of Mirdad by Mikhail Naimy
In the boundless ocean of being, where the winds of eternity blow without ceasing, man sails on the frail bark of self, tossed hither and thither by the storms of his desires. He seeks peace, yet finds only unrest; he longs for joy, yet tastes only bitterness. The waves of his passions rise high and dash him against the rocks of his own folly. But lo, there is a haven, a quiet harbor where the waters are still and the winds are gentle. It is the harbor of balance, the place where all opposites meet and are reconciled. Here, man may find rest from his toil, peace from his strife. Here, he may taste the sweetness of harmony, the music of the spheres. Balance is the key to all things, the secret of life itself. It is the golden mean, the middle way. It is not the dull gray of compromise, nor the harsh black and white of extremes. It is the rainbow that bridges heaven and earth, spirit and matter, light and darkness. To find balance is to find oneself, to discover the hidden unity that lies at the heart of all things. It is to see with the eye of the soul, to hear with the ear of the heart. It is to be in the world but not of it, to walk the earth with feet of clay yet soar on wings of spirit. In the quest for balance, one must first look within. For it is in the inner world that the outer is mirrored, in the microcosm that the macrocosm is reflected. One must examine oneself with the eye of truth, weighing the scales of one's own heart. One must see where the balance is lacking, where the scales are tipped too far in one direction or the other. Then one must strive to restore the balance, to bring harmony to the discordant elements of one's being. This is no easy task, for the forces of imbalance are strong and insidious. But with patience and persistence, with courage and faith, one may overcome them. And as one finds balance within, so too will one find it without. For the outer world is but a reflection of the inner, a shadow of the reality that lies beyond. When one is in harmony with oneself, one is in harmony with all things. When one is at peace with oneself, one is at peace with the world. Thus, in all aspects of life, in thought and word and deed, in workSimilar Posts
