Embracing change and impermanence can lead to greater peace from "summary" of The Art of Happiness in a Troubled World by Dalai Lama,Howard Cutler,M.D.

Embracing change and impermanence can lead to greater peace. Life is constantly in flux, ever-changing and unpredictable. By accepting this fundamental truth, we can find a sense of freedom and ease within ourselves. When we resist change, we create unnecessary suffering for ourselves. We become attached to things remaining the same, clinging to a false sense of security and stability. However, this attachment only brings about frustration and disappointment when things inevitably shift. Impermanence is a natural part of life, and when we acknowledge this reality, we can release our grip on the illusion of control. We learn to let go of our resistance and embrace the flow of life's changes. In doing so, we cultivate a sense of inner peace and resilience. Rather than resisting the inevitable, we can adapt and grow with the shifting tides of life. We can learn to find beauty and opportunity in the midst of uncertainty and change. Moreover, embracing impermanence allows us to appreciate the present moment more fully. When we let go of our attachment to the past or our worries about the future, we can fully engage with what is happening right now. We can savor the joys and experiences of the present without being weighed down by regrets or fears. This mindfulness and presence in the moment bring a profound sense of peace and contentment.
  1. By embracing change and impermanence, we free ourselves from unnecessary suffering and find a deeper sense of peace within. We learn to navigate life's uncertainties with grace and resilience, finding beauty and growth in the midst of change. Through acceptance and mindfulness, we can cultivate a profound sense of inner peace that transcends the ebb and flow of life's circumstances.
