This mindset leads to conflict and resentment from "summary" of The Anatomy of Peace, Fourth Edition by The Arbinger Institute

When we operate with a mindset of seeing others as objects, as obstacles or vehicles to our own goals, conflict is inevitable. This mindset leads us to view others not as people with their own needs, desires, and feelings but as mere tools to be used or hurdles to be overcome. In this state of mind, we are focused solely on getting what we want, regardless of the impact on others. We become blind to the humanity of those around us, reducing them to mere objects in our pursuit of personal gain. As we interact with others from this mindset, our actions and words are likely to be self-serving and manipulative. We may resort to deception or coercion to achieve our aims, leading to a breakdown in trust and communication. Others, sensing our lack of regard for their well-being, may react defensively or aggressively, further fueling the cycle of conflict. This way of thinking also breeds resentment. When we treat others as objects, we deny them the respect and consideration they deserve as fellow human beings. This disregard for their humanity can lead to feelings of anger, hurt, and betrayal on their part. They may come to see us as selfish and uncaring, making it difficult to work together harmoniously.
  1. The mindset that sees others as objects sets the stage for conflict and resentment to flourish. It creates a dynamic where each party is focused on their own needs and desires at the expense of others, leading to a breakdown in relationships and cooperation. To break free from this destructive cycle, we must shift our perspective to one that recognizes the humanity and worth of all individuals involved. Only then can we begin to truly resolve conflicts and build more peaceful and productive relationships.
