Human evolution shaped our dietary needs from "summary" of Paleo Solution, 2nd Edition by Robb Wolf

Throughout millions of years of evolution, the human species has adapted to a certain way of life that includes dietary needs. Our hunter-gatherer ancestors lived off the land, consuming foods that were readily available in their environment. These foods were primarily whole, unprocessed, and nutrient-dense, providing the necessary fuel for survival and optimal health. As humans evolved, our bodies developed certain genetic adaptations that favored the consumption of specific foods. For example, our ability to digest and absorb nutrients from animal products, such as meat and fish, played a crucial role in our evolution. These foods provided the necessary proteins, fats, and micronutrients needed for growth, development, and overall health. In contrast, the introduction of agriculture and processed foods occurred relatively recently in human history. These foods, such as grains, dairy, and refined sugars, were not part of our ancestral diet and can lead to various health issues when consumed in excess. Our bodies are simply not designed to handle the high levels of refined carbohydrates and processed fats found in modern diets. By understanding our evolutionary history and the dietary patterns that shaped our genetic makeup, we can make informed choices about the foods we consume. By focusing on whole, nutrient-dense foods that align with our evolutionary past, we can optimize our health, prevent chronic disease, and thrive in today's world. The key is to eat real food that nourishes our bodies and supports our genetic heritage.
