Consistency is key from "summary" of Mini Habits by Stephen Guise

Consistency is the secret ingredient that makes habits powerful. It isn't glamorous or flashy, but it is effective. The power of consistency is perhaps best demonstrated by compound interest, a financial concept that shows how small, consistent investments can grow into something significant over time. In the same way, small, consistent actions can snowball into major changes in our lives. Consistency is particularly important when it comes to forming habits because it helps to reinforce the behavior we want to adopt. Each time we repeat a behavior, we strengthen the neural pathways associated with that behavior, making it easier to perform in the future. On the flip side, when we skip a behavior, we weaken those pathways, making it harder to resume the habit in the future. Consistency also helps to build momentum. When we perform a small action consistently, we start to see progress over time. This progress can be incredibly motivating, spurring us on to continue our efforts and build even more momentum. In contrast, when we only take sporadic action, progress is slow and it can be difficult to stay motivated. Consistency also helps to make habits more automatic. When we do something consistently, it becomes ingrained in our daily routine, requiring less effort and willpower to maintain. This is why forming a habit becomes easier over time – the more consistent we are, the more automatic the behavior becomes.
  1. Consistency is the key to making lasting changes in our lives. By committing to small, consistent actions, we can gradually build habits that will stick with us for the long term. So, if you want to make a change in your life, remember that consistency is your most powerful tool.
