Be kind to yourself from "summary" of Keep Going by Austin Kleon

It's easy to beat yourself up and be your own worst critic. We tend to be much harsher on ourselves than we would ever be on a friend. We hold ourselves to impossibly high standards and then berate ourselves when we don't meet them. But what if we were a little kinder to ourselves? What if we treated ourselves with the same compassion and understanding that we would offer to a loved one?Being kind to yourself means giving yourself permission to make mistakes. It means recognizing that you are only human and that perfection is an impossible standard. It means forgiving yourself for past failures and allowing yourself to move forward. Being kind to yourself also means taking care of yourself. It means listening to your body and mind and giving yourself the rest and nourishment you need. It means setting boundaries and saying no when you need to. It means prioritizing self-care and making time for the things that bring you joy. When you are kind to yourself, you are better able to show kindness to others. You are more patient, more understanding, and more empathetic. You are able to offer support and encouragement to those around you because you have learned to offer it to yourself. So the next time you feel that critical voice in your head starting to speak up, try to silence it. Remind yourself that you are doing the best you can. Give yourself the same grace and compassion you would offer a friend. Be gentle with yourself, and watch as your kindness spills over into every aspect of your life.
