Selfawareness is a prerequisite for change from "summary" of Immunity to Change by Robert Kegan,Lisa Laskow Lahey
To truly change, we must first become aware of our deeply ingrained beliefs and values that may be holding us back. This self-awareness is essential in order to challenge and ultimately overcome the barriers that prevent us from making the changes we desire. Without this awareness, we remain stuck in our old ways, unable to break free from the patterns that keep us from reaching our full potential. When we are able to shine a light on our own blind spots, we gain a deeper understanding of why we resist change. This awareness allows us to see the underlying fears, insecurities, and limiting beliefs that are driving our behavior. By uncovering these hidden motivations, we can begin to address them directly and work towards dismantling the barriers that stand in our way. Self-awareness also enables us to see the discrepancies between our stated goals and our actual behaviors. We may believe that we want to change, but our actions tell a different story. By acknowledging these inconsistencies, we can start to align our intentions with our actions, creating a more coherent and authentic path towards change. Moreover, self-awareness allows us to recognize the stories we tell ourselves about why we can't change. These stories often stem from deep-seated beliefs that have been with us for years, shaping our perception of what is possible. By challenging these stories and replacing them with new, more empowering narratives, we can begin to shift our mindset and open ourselves up to new possibilities.- Self-awareness serves as the foundation upon which meaningful change can be built. It is only by first understanding ourselves - our beliefs, values, fears, and motivations - that we can begin to break free from the constraints that hold us back. Through this process of self-discovery and reflection, we can embark on a transformative journey towards becoming the best version of ourselves.
