Challenge negative thoughts from "summary" of Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway by Susan Jeffers

When we begin to pay attention to our inner dialogue, we often find that it is filled with negative thoughts and beliefs. These thoughts can be so ingrained in our minds that we don't even realize we are thinking them. They have become automatic, habitual responses to situations in our lives. But just because we have been thinking these negative thoughts for so long doesn't mean they are true. In fact, most of the time, they are completely unfounded and based on fear rather than reality. These thoughts are simply our way of protecting ourselves from the unknown and the unpredictable. The first step in challenging negative thoughts is to become aware of them. Pay attention to the thoughts that run through your mind on a daily basis. Notice when you are being self-critical or when you are predicting the worst possible outcome in a situation.
