Sugar is the main contributor to the obesity epidemic from "summary" of Fat Chance by Robert H. Lustig

Sugar is the master of all sugars, the one that is the most dangerous of them all. The one that has the most fructose. The one that is the direct cause of the obesity epidemic that is sweeping the globe. This sweet poison is found in everything we eat and drink, lurking in the shadows, waiting to wreak havoc on our bodies. When we consume sugar, our bodies go into overdrive. Our livers are bombarded with fructose, which they cannot handle in large quantities. This excess fructose gets turned into fat, which then gets stored in our bodies. This fat accumulates over time, leading to obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and a host of other health problems. Sugar is not just empty calories, it is toxic calories. It is a substance that our bodies were not designed to handle in such large quantities. It is a substance that has been slowly poisoning us for decades, leading to an epidemic of obesity that shows no signs of slowing down. The food industry has played a large role in the spread of sugar, adding it to nearly everything they produce. They have turned our food into a toxic cocktail of sugar, salt, and fat, designed to keep us coming back for more. They have created a world where sugar is king, and we are its willing subjects. But we do not have to be slaves to sugar. We can break free from its grasp, by being mindful of what we eat and drink, by reading labels, by cooking our own meals, by taking back control of our health. We can fight back against this sweet poison and reclaim our bodies from the obesity epidemic that has taken hold. It is time to say no to sugar, and yes to a healthier future.
