Sugar is highly addictive and can be difficult to quit from "summary" of Fat Chance by Robert H. Lustig

Sugar is the real deal, folks. It’s not just empty calories. It’s not just the root cause of our obesity epidemic. It’s not just a cavity creator. It’s none of those things. It’s something much more insidious. It’s addictive. Now, I know what you’re thinking. “Addicted to sugar? Come on, Doc, you’re being dramatic.” But I’m not. Sugar lights up the same pleasure centers in your brain as drugs like cocaine. When you consume sugar, your brain releases dopamine, the feel-good chemical that makes you want more. And the more you have, the more you need to get that same high. It’s a vicious cycle, my friends. But breaking free from this addiction is no walk in the park. You can’t just decide one day to quit sugar cold turkey and expect everything to be rainbows and butterflies. Your body has become dependent on it, craving it like a junkie craves a fix. And when you try to cut it out, you experience withdrawal symptoms like headaches, fatigue, and irritability. It’s not pretty, but it’s the harsh reality of sugar addiction. Quitting sugar is a journey, not a destination. It requires commitment, willpower, and a whole lot of support. You need to retrain your brain to find pleasure in healthier foods. You need to learn how to cope with stress and emotions without turning to sugar for comfort. It’s a tough road, but it’s a road worth traveling. Because on the other side lies freedom. Freedom from cravings. Freedom from dependence. Freedom to live your life to the fullest.
