Negative emotions can hinder brain function. When we experience negative emotions such as anger, fear, or anxiety, our brain shifts into a state of stress. This stress response activates our primitive survival mechanism known as the fight-or-flight response. The fight-or-flight response is designed to protect us from immediate danger by flooding our body with stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol. While this response can be life-saving in an emergency situation, it becomes detrimental when triggered by everyday stressors like traffic jams, work deadlines, or relationship conflicts.
