Control anxiety by changing perspective from "summary" of Dare by Barry McDonagh

To control anxiety, it is crucial to understand that it is not the situation itself that causes anxiety, but rather our perspective of the situation. When we view a situation as threatening or dangerous, our bodies respond by triggering anxiety symptoms. However, by changing our perspective of the situation, we can alter our body's response and reduce anxiety. Changing perspective involves shifting our focus from the worst-case scenario to a more realistic and rational view of the situation. Instead of dwelling on what could go wrong, we can remind ourselves of past experiences where things turned out better than expected. By doing so, we can challenge our irrational thoughts and beliefs that fuel anxiety. Another way to change perspective is to adopt a more detached and objective view of the situation. Rather than getting caught up in our emotions and allowing them to dictate our thoughts and actions, we can step back and observe the situation from a distance. This allows us to see things more clearly and make more reasoned decisions. It is also helpful to remind ourselves that anxiety is a normal human emotion that everyone experiences from time to time. By accepting and acknowledging our anxiety, we can reduce the power it has over us. Instead of trying to fight or suppress our anxiety, we can learn to coexist with it and not let it control us.
  1. We can reduce the intensity and frequency of anxiety symptoms. This shift in mindset allows us to approach challenging situations with more confidence and resilience. Ultimately, by changing our perspective, we can regain control over our anxiety and live a more fulfilling life.
