Accept fear and embrace discomfort from "summary" of Dare by Barry McDonagh

Imagine fear as a companion that is always lurking around the corner, waiting to pounce when you least expect it. Instead of running away from it or trying to fight it, what if you were to simply accept its presence? By acknowledging fear and allowing it to exist without resistance, you take away its power over you. Embracing discomfort is similar to accepting fear, but it goes a step further. It involves willingly stepping into situations that make you uneasy, rather than avoiding them. When you embrace discomfort, you are essentially telling yourself that you are capable of handling whatever challenges come your way. The concept of accepting fear and embracing discomfort is not about seeking out fear-inducing situations for the sake of it. It is about learning to coexist with your fears and pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone when necessary. By practicing acceptance and embracing discomfort, you develop resilience and courage that will serve you well in the face of adversity. When you resist fear or discomfort, you are essentially telling yourself that you are not capable of dealing with these emotions. However, by accepting them as a natural part of life, you begin to see them as opportunities for growth and self-discovery. Instead of viewing fear and discomfort as obstacles to be avoided, you can start to see them as stepping stones towards personal development and empowerment.
  1. Accepting fear and embracing discomfort is about changing your relationship with these emotions. Rather than letting them control you, you take control of them and use them to propel yourself forward. It is a mindset shift that can lead to profound changes in how you approach challenges and obstacles in your life.
