Practice acceptance and nonjudgment from "summary" of Buddha's Brain by Rick Hanson,Richard Mendius

A fundamental practice in cultivating mindfulness and inner peace is the ability to accept things as they are, without judgment or resistance. This means acknowledging reality as it presents itself, without wishing for it to be different or trying to control it. When we can practice acceptance and nonjudgment, we open ourselves up to a greater sense of peace and well-being, even in the face of difficult or challenging circumstances. Acceptance does not mean that we passively resign ourselves to whatever comes our way. Rather, it is about acknowledging the reality of the present moment and responding to it with wisdom and compassion. By accepting things as they are, we can free ourselves from the cycle of suffering that comes from constantly resisting or fighting against reality. Nonjudgment is closely related to acceptance, as it involves letting go of our tendency to label things as good or bad, right or wrong. When we judge a situation or ourselves harshly, we create unnecessary suffering and conflict within our minds. By releasing judgment and simply observing things as they are, we can cultivate a greater sense of peace and equanimity. Practicing acceptance and nonjudgment requires a willingness to be present with whatever arises in our inner experience, whether it is pleasant or unpleasant. This means allowing our thoughts, emotions, and sensations to come and go without getting caught up in them or trying to push them away. By staying open and receptive to whatever arises, we can learn to navigate the ups and downs of life with greater ease and grace.
  1. The practice of acceptance and nonjudgment is about cultivating a sense of inner spaciousness and freedom. When we can let go of our attachment to how things should be and simply be with what is, we can find a deep sense of peace and contentment within ourselves. This practice is not always easy, but with patience and persistence, we can learn to embrace life in all its richness and complexity, with an open heart and mind.
