Accountability can help us stay committed to our goals from "summary" of Better Than Before by Gretchen Rubin
When we make a commitment to ourselves, it can be easy to let it slide when no one else is watching. We might set a goal to exercise regularly or eat healthier, but without any external accountability, it can be tempting to skip a workout or indulge in a cheat meal. However, when we involve others in our goals, we introduce a level of external accountability that can help us stay on track. This external accountability can come in many forms, such as sharing our goals with a friend, joining a group with similar objectives, or even hiring a coach or personal trainer. By making our goals known to others, we create a sense of responsibility and motivation to follow through. We are less likely to give up or make excuses when we know that others are aware of our intentions. In addition to external accountability, internal accountability plays a crucial role in helping us stay committed to our goals. When we establish clear expectations and consequences for our actions, we are more likely to hold ourselves accountable for our progress. This might involve setting specific deadlines, tracking our progress, or rewarding ourselves for reaching milestones. By combining external and internal accountability, we create a powerful support system that can help us overcome obstacles and stay committed to our goals. When we know that others are counting on us and that we have set clear expectations for ourselves, we are more likely to push through challenges and stay motivated. Accountability can provide the extra push we need to turn our aspirations into reality.Similar Posts
